Celebrating GA Pre-K Week:
Dr. Sheila Thomas Reads JR’s Biggest Fan Across Several Schools
GA Pre-K Week is a special time dedicated to highlighting the importance of early learning and celebrating the educators, families, and students who make it meaningful. This year, Dr. Sheila Thomas spent the week visiting schools, sharing her children’s book JR’s Biggest Fan with Pre-K students in joyful, interactive read-aloud sessions.
Each visit created a moment of connection. Students listened, laughed, asked questions, and proudly shared about the people who cheer them on at home and school. Dr. Sheila reminded children that having someone believe in you makes a big difference, and that they, too, can be someone’s “biggest fan.”
Teachers and staff welcomed the sessions with excitement, using the story to spark conversations about encouragement, family, and confidence. Many classrooms followed the reading with activities and affirmations inspired by JR’s story.

Why It Matters
Early literacy experiences like read-alouds help children:
-
Build listening and comprehension skills
-
Connect emotionally with stories and characters
-
See themselves represented in literature
-
Feel valued and supported in the classroom community
By bringing JR’s Biggest Fan directly into classrooms, Dr. Sheila celebrated not just reading but the relationships that help children feel seen and encouraged.
